ACTIVITIES

Coming to Plymouth - Take advantage of one of our special short break packages. As well as the on-site activities of golf, leisure and beauty, The Elfordleigh has teamed up with other local businesses and can now offer the following activities:

DOG WALKING / HIKING

Dog owners and walkers are welcome at The Elfordleigh. We have a selection of recommended walks which guests may obtain from reception including coastal paths, Dartmoor treks and woodland/forest walks to meet a variety of different requirements.

HISTORIC HOUSES

Devon and Cornwall have more than their fair share of historic houses which are easily accessible from The Elfordleigh. One fine National Trust property Saltram House is only a few minutes drive from the hotel. It is probable that when The Elfordleigh was first built in the 1700s, its estate lands would have run adjacent to those of the Parker's of Saltram. A 20 minute drive from the hotel is Buckland Abbey, the historic former home of Sir Francis Drake.

FISHY EXPERIENCES

Try your hand at Fly Fishing at one of the five lakes at Tavistock Trout Fishery. Fly Fishing tuition available by prior arrangement. Tackle hire and on-site shop. Fish gutting and freezer service also available. Can't get enough of fish - Why not include a visit the National Marine Aquarium in Plymouth during your stay. See Britain's largest aquarium, containing Europe's deepest tank. From the aquarium why not walk along the waterfront to the historic Barbican.

SHOPPING

Picture of Tavistock in West Devon. - The Gateway to Dartmoor. This was voted top market town in 2006 in a national survey. Famous for its 'foodie' image, even the world's most famous burger chain closed its outlet due to lack of sales. Friday is the traditional market day, and on 2nd and 4th Saturdays of each month there is a Farmers Market. Tavistock is only a half-hour drive from the Hotel.

If Art and Craft is what interests you then why not visit the ancient market town of Totnes, famous for its tolerance towards alternative lifestyles. On Tuesday mornings between May and September there is an Elizabethan Market where traders dress in costume. Running alongside this is an all-day craft market.

For a true diversity of shops then take a short journey into the centre of Plymouth. The historic Barbican has a unique collection of galleries and small individual shops and restaurants. The main centre includes major department stores, the new Drake's Circus shopping centre alongside street café's, theatres and cinemas.
